Rhode Island

Event: 25 Annual Mardi Gras
Venue: St. Ann Arts and Cultural Center– Woonsocket
Date: February 23
Description: Join us for our 25th Mardi Gras will be held at St. Ann Arts & Cultural Center! Music and dancing by “Jeff Gamache’s Runaway Train” will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and “The Squeezebox Stompers Zydeco Band” will entertain starting at 8:30 PM until closing. A delicious and full Cajun Buffet will be served and there will be cash prizes for Best Costumes. Tickets are $30 in advance and can be purchased by calling Lorraine at (401) 762-9072. Limited tickets will be sold at the door at $35 (if the event is not sold out). Our newly crowned 2019 Queen of Mardi Gras and her Court escorted by King Jace XXV will join the festivities. The Queen Coronation and Unmasking of King Jace XXV (mysterious monarch of Mardi Gras) will take place on Friday, February 15th at Savini’s Pomodoro Restaurant in Woonsocket from 6-8 PM. Tickets are $10 and a limited number will be sold at the door.

Event: Incidents at Sea AMERICAN CONFRONTATIONS AND COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA AND CHINA, 1945-2016
Venue: Hendrick Hudson Free Library – Montrose

Description: Back by popular demand, Naval Historical Foundation Staff Historian Dr. David Winkler, author of Ready Then, Ready Now, Ready Always, draws on extensive State Department files, declassified Navy policy papers, and interviews with former top officials to examine the evolution of U.S. –China and U.S. –Russia relations from 1945 to present.  Winkler details occasional U.S. –Russia naval force interactions during the Cold War, China’s efforts to militarize the South China Sea and claim sovereignty over waters within their exclusive economic zone, and the U.S. Navy’s efforts to counter these challenges.
