Event: Creature Feature – Stop motion workshop for kids
Venue: Four Corners Art Center – Tiverton

Description: In just 2 hours, participants ages 7 and up will learn techniques of cut paper animation while working in small groups to make their own short film! Cut paper animation uses 2 dimensional images cut from magazines, catalogs or construction paper to make paper puppets, which will then be brought to life.This type of animation produces a distinctive look and comes with its own set of interesting illusions. Participants will learn the science and art that goes into this type of film while also having the option of participating in our short premier at our ‘Creature Feature’ reception.

Event: Purchase Symphony and Jazz Orchestra Celebrate Black History Month
Venue: The Performing Arts Center – Purchase

Description: The Purchase Symphony and Jazz Orchestras Celebrate Black History Month on February 15 at 7 pm with a special evening at The Performing Arts Center. The performance will feature excerpts of William Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony, an orchestral suite from Gershwin’s landmark opera Porgy and Bess, and a set of big band music by African American composers and arrangers. Mina Kim will conduct the Purchase Symphony Orchestra. The Purchase Jazz Orchestra will be conducted by Todd Coolman and Jon Faddis. Lorenzo (Frank) Candelaria, Dean of the School of the Arts, and Joseph Horowitz, Visiting Professor in the Conservatory of Music, will give an introduction and lead an audience talkback between sets.
